A solid
performance from Abingdon United as they beat Garden City 7-0 on Sunday
at Northcourt Road. Three handballs
within five minutes produced a slow start but Abingdon soon took an
early lead; a good cross from the right for Michael Organ who scored
with a neat header from 3 yards. Good build up play with neat passing
made it 2-0 with a cross/shot from Organ into the top left corner. Tom
Larman struck soon after from 18 yards into bottom corner for the third
goal just before half time.
The
second half produced more excellent build up play; a fancy touch from
Adam Foster allowed Joe Francis to cross from the left for Organ to
claim his third goal of the afternoon. Abingdon were the awarded a
penalty blistering run from Tom Coates into the box resulted in him
being brought down. Coates stepped up and slotted the ball into the back
of the net to make it 5-0. More excellent play from Coates won Abingdon
a free kick which was delivered into the box for him to rise above his
marker and head the ball into the back of the net at the back post. Some
foul play from Garden City resulting in a red card for one of their
players, who then proceeded to sulk off the pitch in an unsporting
manner. Coates soon after gained his hatrick after a burst of pace
beating the goalie to the ball and slotting away nicely.
Jonny Lloyd worked hard but was unable to find the scoring touch, Lewis
Allen and Nino Merola formed an efficient partnership in central
defence, despite not having much to do Jamie Mold was solid when called
upon. Overall a good performance from the Under 16s, who are really
starting to find good form having scored 16 goals in their last two
matches.
